The school’s “Caps with Heart” initiative is growing, and learners are encouraged to collect caps that will contribute towards providing wheelchairs.

Johannesburg, South Africa (02 April 2026) – At Alberton High School, a simple bottle cap is becoming a symbol of hope, unity, and real change.

The school has breathed new life into one of its most meaningful initiatives, turning everyday recycling into something truly impactful. Their bottle cap collection drive, which helps provide wheelchairs to those in need, has now taken on a new form a giant metal heart standing proudly outside the front office. This will make drop offs easier for those getting rid of bottle caps.

The heart tells a story. Every cap dropped inside represents a small act of kindness, a moment where learners come together for something bigger than themselves. It’s a reminder that even the smallest contributions can add up to something life-changing. With the support of Tilvis Engineering, who sponsored the installation, the initiative has grown into a visible and inspiring part of school life.

Learners are encouraged to get involved, collecting caps from home and bringing them to school, knowing that each one plays a role in helping someone regain mobility and independence.

The initiative is named Caps with Heart and it’s a growing legacy of community coming together. They’re building something that could change lives, one small piece at a time.
