Get ready for a day of fun, games, and inclusivity! Camphill Village West Coast is hosting an International Disability Awareness Sports Day on 6 December. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking to have fun, everyone is welcome!
Cape Town, South Africa (28 November 2024) – The 3rd of December will mark the International Day of Persons with Disability and to observe this worthy cause, the Camphill Village West Coast will host a jam-packed International Disability Awareness Sports Day on Friday, 6 December to promote fun and inclusivity.
Participants from all walks of life (and of different abilities), including the Hout Bay United Football Community Soccer Team, The City of Cape Town Football Club Deaf Society Outreach, and Huis Horison, will come together to celebrate diversity and fun while doing it.
Attendees will be divided into the seven colours of the rainbow, representing the colourful nation. Together, they will participate in a range of exciting sports games, including relay races, soccer, netball, volleyball and dance.
Established in 1964, Camphill Village West Coast is a dynamic community working with intellectually challenged adults who care about the environment and produce quality products in a natural farm setting.
The village provides a uniquely inclusive approach to life for intellectually challenged adults, offering them purpose and dignity.
“We now offer a home and place of work for 100 residents. We have 13 group homes, and enterprises, in which they work daily.
“Our enterprises (dairy, herbal workshop, farm and vegetable gardens) produce a wide range of products that are sold to a number of Cape Town retail outlets in the greater Cape Town area,” the organisation said.
Sustainable farming and enriching the lives of the Camphill residents go hand-in-hand. The revenue made from these sales goes towards sustaining the village with the notion that the work done today directly impacts the generations to come.
