An elderly man who never owned an ID. An abandoned clinic patient. A new mom who had nowhere to go. These are just a few recent examples of the lives the Living Hope Health Care Centre has touched and transformed – providing compassionate care and turning stories of struggle into tales of hope.
Cape Town, South Africa (24 September 2025) – This year, the Living Hope Health Care Centre celebrates 20 years of compassionate and whole-person-centred care!
In numbers, this translates to 317 patients (and counting) served and over 173,988 care interventions implemented with the heartfelt purpose to transform lives through physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
Offering a glimpse into the charity’s life-changing work are the stories of an elderly man without an ID, an abandoned patient and a young mother who gave birth under dire circumstances.
Just recently, Living Hope went above and beyond to help a 64-year-old man, who had never been registered at birth, receive his first ID and SASSA pension after 417 days with them. This is a man who, until recently, had to somehow (we imagine by great difficulty) navigate life and the world around him – school, securing work and filling out applications – without the most basic form of identification all his life.
Thanks to Living Hope interventions, that struggle is now a thing of the past, and he now lives safely in an old-age home.
A patient, who had been abandoned at a clinic, found refuge at Living Hope and was reunited with his family in Gqeberha after 12 long years, flying for the first time using his grant money.
In a separate crisis case, a young mother who had given birth under dire circumstances was discharged from the hospital with nowhere to go.
According to Living Hope, she walked alone with her newborn until a compassionate stranger called the centre.
“We found her living in a pigeon loft. Through emergency relief and family reconciliation, her dignity was restored.”
These are not just stories of healing; they are true testimonies of lives reclaimed.
