From the rural streets of Limpopo to Joburg’s biggest breakfast show… this is the Ndlovu Youth Choir’s amazing story!
The entire Choir recently joined Martin Bester on the Jacaranda Breakfast show to sing their rendition of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’… in isiZulu. Listeners were blown away with their incredible performance but even more inspired by their amazing story!
The Ndlovu Youth Choir is made up of a group of young people from the Ndlovu Care Group in the rural village of Moutse, Limpopo.
Ndlovu Care Group was founded in 1994 by Dutch doctor, Dr. Hugo Templeman, and provides innovative healthcare, childcare, education and community development.
But since its inception in 2009, the choir has profoundly affected the lives of the choristers and demonstrates the potential of any human being to achieve excellence no matter their background, education or place of birth. From its humble beginnings as an after-school activity the choir has evolved into a truly outstanding professional ensemble.
“The fact that you were born in a place of poverty, does not make you poor. You are always able to uplift yourself, especially when excellence is offered to you, and programmes like the Ndlovu Youth Choir provide an opportunity for these young people to express themselves and give them a voice that perhaps they didn’t know they had.”
The choir has taken these young South Africans from the rural streets of Moutse, to national stages to show off their amazing talents!
It has also given them a loud and powerful voice… one that is giving them hope and taking them to incredible heights.
