The Afrika Tikkun Uthando Centre is blossoming with innovation, thanks to the launch of its groundbreaking farm! This project will empower young agripreneurs in the city of Johannesburg to gain practical skills and provide fresh produce for the charity’s kitchens.
Johannesburg, South Africa (09 March 2025) – Things are shaking up at the Afrika Tikkun Uthando Centre in the best and most innovative of ways!
The centre, situated in inner city Johannesburg, recently launched its first-ever hydroponic farm project as part of the Afrika Tikkun Agripreneurship Programme, which addresses arguably two of South Africa’s most critical issues: unemployment and a lack of food security.
Unlike traditional farming, this innovative hydroponic system allows vegetables to grow using a water-based nutrient solution instead of soil.
The launch event was attended by Afrika Tikkun executives and esteemed partners, including Green Urban Farms, AngloGold Ashanti, and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Imagine fresh, homegrown produce supplied right at the center’s kitchens, all while empowering young agripreneurs, educating and inspiring the next generation – that is what this project is all about!
“This project is more than just about growing crops; it demonstrates the potential of urban farming and supports young agripreneurs in gaining practical skills.
“It also serves as an educational tool for our beneficiaries while providing fresh, home-grown produce for our kitchens, helping to reduce costs,” Afrika Tikkun said.
Afrika Tikkun Uthando Centre extends its heartfelt gratitude to all its partners for making this project a reality and contributing to its success.
“Together, we are cultivating a future of sustainable agriculture and economic empowerment.”
