Kelly Clarkson and Pink gave an emotionally stunning performance to open the 2017 American Music Awards on Sunday night singing R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.”
The AMAs 2017 chose to do something a little bit different for their opening. Rather than feature some high-octane performance straight out of the gate, the show chose instead to honor First Responders for all that they have done to help those in need over the past year.
After an introduction from Jamie Foxx explaining that “two of the world’s most powerful voices” were joining forces for the first time to “to pay respects to all those affected by the events of the last year,” P!nk and Kelly Clarkson opened the 2017 American Music Awards on Sunday night (Nov. 19) with a performance of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.”
Together they belted out the 1992 hit, which urges the listener to “hang on” in the face of darkness and despair, as a tribute to everyone affected by all of the difficulties and tragedies.
