A young boy, once called horrible names by those closest to him, has found renewed confidence through art. Dancers are expressing themselves through movement, and dedicated students have earned bursaries! These are just a few of the amazing developments coming from the ReStory Foundation!
Durban North, South Africa (14 March 2025) – This year, the ReStory Foundation has welcomed a record number of children into its afternoon sessions. With over 330 children in one of its facilities, it is a testament to the growing impact of its enriching programmes.
As 2025 unfolds, the child support and education charity has delved into its overarching theme, I Choose To Build My Life, My Community, My Nation, seamlessly integrating it into each of its diverse groups. These groups cater to a wide spectrum of children’s needs and developmental areas, from well-being and education to fostering self-expression.
“This has been discussed at individual level, community and national level. Our goal is to build outward focus and awareness, whilst strengthening self and relational awareness. Our sessions continue to build resilience, identity, agency, with each child receiving a journal for reflection,” ReStory Foundation shared.
Through creative sessions designed to ignite young imaginations, children have been creating captivating neuro-graphic art for an upcoming UK exhibition. This expressive process encourages creativity, introspection, and emotional healing.
“By transforming stressful emotions into free-flowing scribbles, then smoothing and coloring them, they are able to turn pain into art,” the foundation elaborated.
A young boy shared that his scribble reflected being called terrible names by friends and family. But as he added colour, saw it transform into something beautiful, he realised he wasn’t “stupid” has he had been led to believe, and declared this with his shoulders back and a smile beaming on his face!
The Foundation is also thrilled to have established a new drama group and the dance group continues to expand, giving its Shining Stars a range of ways to express themselves.
In addition to the creative arts, the foundation has introduced computer skills and IT training to its after-school programmes and the Bright Minds Maths club continues to reap great results!
All six matriculants from the previous year passed their final exams with some also receiving bursaries.
“We are so proud of these young adults and can’t wait to see what they achieve.”
Children are being nurtured and bright futures are being secured in the most enriching of ways at the ReStory Foundation facilities!
