In a bid to champion improved eyesight and support those facing visual impairment, Retina SA will host its 36th Ride for Sight cycle race this weekend. It’s an opportunity to pedal for vision and help ensure all South Africans can see the world in its fullness!
Boksburg, South Africa (12 February 2025) – The gift of good eyesight is something many of us enjoy without giving it much thought. It allows us to see our loved ones, navigate through busy traffic, admire breathtaking views, or even read this article. You only need to open your eyes to take it all in.
Sadly, many other often underrepresented South Africans deal with the challenges of visual impairments due to complex or retinal degenerative conditions. That is where the vital work of Retina South Africa comes in.
Retina SA – champions for improved eyesight and related research – is the only patient-led advocacy and support group for patients with a wide range of retinal conditions.
The organisation’s goal is to ensure that all South Africans with these kinds of conditions have access to appropriate treatments and to empower people with low vision to be productive members of society through information-sharing, education, training, and counselling.
To further boost its advocacy and mission, Retina SA will host its 36th edition of the Ride for Sight cycle race on Sunday, February 16.
Held at the Boksburg City Stadium, this premier cycling event will be dedicated to supporting individuals with visual impairments and promises to be more impactful than ever!
“This year, we continue to support tandem biking for visually impaired individuals, with special thanks to Linsay Engelbrecht for seeking pilots.
“Participants are also eligible for various lucky draw prizes, including a Venter Bike Trailer and a Sealy Bed set, with a special donation draw for an Orbea gravel bike valued at R45,000,” shares Sandra Brown, Retina SA Social Media Manager.
Retina South Africa’s mission extends beyond the event with various activities, including education, assistance services, community engagement, and research initiatives.
