South African Barista Champion, Harry Mole is heading to Boston to represent SA at the International competition, and he plans to fly the flag high!
Pretoria, South Africa – Harry Mole is heading to the USA to compete in the International Barista Championships being held in Boston. He is going because he won the National Barista competition here in South Africa for 2019.
This isn’t the first time he has competed in the national leg of the competition. In 2017 he placed 2nd and 2018, 3rd. He plans to head over to Boston to proudly fly the South African flag high and hopefully come home a champion.
An estimated 100 competitors from across the globe will take to the stage for four days of fierce competition. The World Coffee Championships is an annual event that is the culmination of local and regional events, hosted by over sixty sanctioned National Bodies globally.
Competitors in the World Barista Championship have to prepare four espressos, four milk drinks, and four original signature drinks to exacting standards within 15 minutes. The event takes place from the 11th to the 14th of April 2019.
Harry first got onto the coffee scene about six years ago and fell in love with the industry. He hopes to inspire the next generation of baristas with his efforts.
“I entered the coffee industry 6 years ago as a coffee roastery. I fell in love with coffee brewing 2 years following my roasting career and transitioned into barista training and wholesale for TriBeCa Coffee.”
Harry, no matter the outcome, South Africa stands behind you. Good luck with the competition!
