Brick by brick and one fresh coat of paint over another, the Santa Shoebox Project has been diligently building the Siphiwe Samangwe Crèche from the ground up, bringing to life the vision of a safe, vibrant learning space for 80 little learners.

Loskop, South Africa (16 July 2025) – What began as a dream is now standing on a firm foundation with four walls and a roof to top it off!

The Santa Shoebox Project (SSP) has been making amazing progress with its sixth Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre, the Siphiwe Samangwe Crèche, destined to become a vibrant learning centre for Loskop’s youngest minds.

Through its Legacy Projects, the SSP brings permanent change to the lives of Santa Shoebox beneficiary children and to the impoverished communities in which they live by establishing new and transforming ECD centres in rural South Africa, with the focus on infrastructure and the Department of Education registration, teacher training and early literacy.

Over the past couple of months, the Santa Shoebox Project has been building a new centre for the Siphiwe Samangwe Crèche from the ground up, painting, curing floors and replacing the single toilet shared by 80 learners and teachers with newly-built, multiple toilet facilities, giving everyone the space and dignity they deserve.

“Siphiwe Samangwe ECD build is coming along beautifully. It’s starting to look just right for laughter, learning, and little footsteps,” SSP said.

As of last week, the playground is also now ready for action, promising a future filled with joy and connection.

“Every brick and beam brings us closer to a place built to play it forward.

“Thank you to every single person who pledges a Shoebox, you’re helping build something that lasts,” SSP said.

SSP has successfully built five ECDs, with the last being the Zisizeni Créche, completed in 2024, boasting two classrooms that serve 40 children in the uThukela District in KwaZulu-Natal.
