Back to school: Here are South Africa’s new school calendars for the academic years 2022 and 2023.

 

South Africa (26 July 2021) – The Department of Basic Education has published the academic calendar for schools in South Africa for the year 2022. The proposed calendar for the year 2023 has been gazetted for comment.

According to the inland cluster 2022 school calendar, the first day of the first term will start on the 12th day of January and ends on 17 March. However, for the coastal cluster, it’s set to commence on 19 January and ends on 25 March.

The second term will start and end on 5 April and 24 June for both clusters, respectively. The third term will take place between 19 July and 30 September for both clusters, and the fourth and final term will take place between 11 October and 14 December 2022.

Meanwhile, schools in South Africa reopened today for 2021’s third term. The winter school holidays were extended by a week due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Alert level four.
