A new thrift shop will open in Claremont soon, run by TEARS Animal Rescue.
Cape Town, South Africa (05 November 2026) – Cape Town thrifters will be pleased to hear the pre-loved shopping pool will soon be expanding with a brand new shop in Claremont!
TEARS Animal Rescue announced the news in a post on Facebook this week.
The local NPO rescues, treats and rehomes abandoned, abused and neglected pets across Cape Town and provides affordable vet care, sterilisation, pet food support and community outreach to help keep animals healthy and in loving homes wherever possible.
The new store will add to its four existing thrifting shops in Sunnydale, Fish Hoek, and Retreat.
These thrift stores help fund the organisation’s lifesaving animal welfare work. People donate good-quality second-hand clothing, furniture, books, homeware and other items, which are then sold in the stores.
“Every rand we raise through our shops goes towards caring for the animals in our care and this new store means even more support for them.” shares TEARS.
Currently, the organisation is in the stages of setting up the shop. It has appealed to the public for any support to help fill it with clothing rails, shelving and cabinets.
“We’re fitting out our new TEARS Thrift Store in Claremont and need donated shop fittings to help bring the space to life.” the organisation shares.
TEARS has put the call out to local businesses that may be refitting or renovating for donations of unwanted fittings. A list of what is needed can be found here.
Donations will help keep the organisation’s setup costs down – those funds will support the animals in its care instead.
Details of the store’s opening are yet to be made available.
