Whether you’re a teen who feels misunderstood or an adult struggling to connect with the adolescent in your life, TeenMindsSA is here to help and bridge the gap through real understanding.

South Africa (03 November 2025) – As an educational psychologist who has spent over a decade working with teenagers, parents, and schools, Dr Chaland van Zyl has seen firsthand how much teens and the adults who care for them both want connection – yet how easily it slips away in our fast-paced, digital, and often disconnected world.

“Today’s teens are growing up in a time of constant comparison, high pressure, and information overload. Parents, too, are under immense strain, trying to balance empathy with boundaries, and guidance with respect for independence,” shares Dr Van Zyl.

Knowing well that when these two worlds drift apart, understanding and trust are lost, the psychologist developed TeenMindsSA. A digital space she’s created to help bridge this growing gap.

What makes this platform different from others is its two-legged approach: Teen Voices and Adult Insights.

“With Teen Voices we make space for honest, unfiltered perspectives from young people. These posts help adults see the world through a teen’s eyes – their emotions, worries, and hopes that often go unheard.”

When it comes to Adult Insights, Dr Van Zyl shares evidence-based guidance, psychological insights, and practical tools to help parents, teachers, and mentors respond with empathy and confidence.

The good doctor emphasises that together, these two perspectives build a bridge – fostering understanding from both sides, not just talking about teens, but with them.

“My work has taken me into therapy rooms, classrooms, and family conversations across South Africa. I’ve presented to parents and educators at leading schools, and I’ve witnessed how relationships change when adults begin to truly listen, not just lecture,” she says.

TeenMindsSA is more than a page – it’s a conversation, and a movement towards stronger, healthier, and more compassionate connections between generations.

If you share this vision of keeping teens connected to the adults who guide them, Dr Van Zyl invites you to be part of this growing community by simply visiting and following the TeenMindsSA Instagram page.

“Together, we can nurture understanding in a world that desperately needs it.”
