Lost Pair of Sunglasses

What started as a stressful panic over a lost pair of special sunglasses for Nicola Pearce turned into a moment that left her moved to the core when a thoughtful airport waitress and her team went above and beyond to safeguard her forgotten belongings.

Cape Town, South Africa (14 September 2026) – The most heartwarming moments of humanity have a tendency to happen shortly after panic, inconvenience, disaster, or pure human error. Readers of Good Things Guy know this well, and in a world that frequently amplifies negativity, these uplifting encounters never get old.

Nicola Pearce’s own story unfolded unexpectedly last Thursday when she thought she had lost a pair of sunglasses, but was instead reminded of something far more valuable.

Flying from Cape Town to Johannesburg for work, Nicola had met her team at the Soaring Hawk Spur inside Cape Town International Airport to squeeze in a quick pre-flight work call.

“Laptop out. AirPods out. Call done. Bags packed. Off we rushed through security and to our gate,” Nicole recounted.

However, it was only once she was on the plane that she realised her sunglasses were gone. It was a pair she had wanted for a long time, saved up for and had travelled everywhere with for the past five years. It wasn’t just a pair of sunglasses – they were sentimental to her.

In her efforts to try to pinpoint where she might have left them, Nicole retraced her steps in her head.

“Had they fallen out of my bag? Had I left them somewhere? Had someone taken them in the chaos of the security queue?” she wondered.

She landed in Johannesburg with a heavy heart and very little hope of seeing them again. She called her Uber driver to inquire if he’d seen her glasses – but sadly, no luck. Then, as a last shot, decided to call the Spur where she’d had lunch with her team.

“Vusi, the wonderful waitress who had served us, came onto the phone. She had found them. And she had kept them safe for me, knowing I’d hopefully come looking for them.”

When she returned to Cape Town, Nicole wasted no time in heading straight to the restaurant. Just as she introduced herself and before she could explain why she was there, the staff already knew who she was and why she’d stopped by.

“They smiled, welcomed me back and handed me my sunglasses. It’s such a small story in the grand scheme of things. But somehow, it didn’t feel small at all,” Nicole said.

It moved her deeply to know that someone picked up a pair of sunglasses and chose honesty, and that a busy team cared enough to remember her and respond with kindness.

“I’m always proud to be South African. But it’s in moments like these, where ordinary people do good things while nobody is watching, that remind me exactly why. Thank you, Vusi. And thank you, Spur Corporation.”
