The Heal Our Children Marathon Walk will cover the distance between Richards Bay and Cape Town in support of children receiving care at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
South Africa (13 September 2026) – A team of walkers set off on an incredible journey from Richards Bay to Cape Town, covering the distance on foot to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital Trust.
Led by Malcolm Johnson, the Heal Our Children Marathon Walk began on 7 September, with the team expected to arrive in Cape Town in mid-October.
The challenge will see them travel across a huge stretch of South Africa, all in support of children receiving life-changing medical care at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.
While the distance itself is a major challenge, the team is walking with a clear purpose: to help raise vital funds for children who need specialised care.
The Children’s Hospital Trust is an independent non-profit organisation founded in 1994. It raises funds to support seriously ill and injured children across sub-Saharan Africa, helping improve the care and treatment available to young patients.
Their journey will continue through September and into October before they reach Cape Town, and supporters are being encouraged to follow along and show them some love along the way.
And if you happen to spot the team on their epic walk, don’t just drive past. Take a picture, tag The Children’s Hospital Trust and help cheer them towards the finish line.
It’s a long way from Richards Bay to Cape Town, but every kilometre is being walked for a reason.
