One Facebook Post Uncovered a Trail of Kindness Left by Officer Lerato

Kindness like this deserves to be shared! Officer Lerato is being praised after stopping to help multiple motorists to safety.

Cape Town, South Africa (31 July 2026) – We weren’t expecting to share another story about a kind police officer quite so soon… but here we are!

Just days after sharing the story of two Bain’s Vlei SAPS officers who stopped to help a stranded motorist in the middle of the night, another act of kindness has landed on our Good Things radar.

This time, it’s from Cape Town, where a law enforcement officer turned what could have been a dangerous situation into one couple says they’ll never forget. Pieter du Plessis shared the story on Facebook after his car unexpectedly broke down on the off-ramp from the R300 onto the N2.

With the vehicle completely dead, the couple called their insurance for a tow truck and asked a friend to fetch them. Then came the waiting… and with it, the uneasy feeling that many South Africans know all too well when they’re stranded on the side of a busy road.

Before long, Officer Lerato Moletsane pulled in behind them. She checked that everyone was okay and, rather than driving off once she knew they were safe, stayed with the pair until the tow truck arrived and they could leave safely.

“Officer Lerato, thank you for your kindness, professionalism and willingness to help complete strangers,” Pieter wrote. “Your presence brought us real peace of mind at a stressful moment. People like you remind us that there are still dedicated public servants who genuinely care.”

“It’s heartbreaking that so many South Africans feel anxious when they find themselves stranded on the side of the road. We hope for a future where no one has to fear for their safety in moments like these.”

Then something else happened. As people began commenting on the post, another motorist shared that they had also crossed paths with Officer Lerato just a day earlier.

Chido explained that after getting a flat tyre near the R300 and N1, Officer Lerato took the wheel to a nearby garage to inflate it before returning a few minutes later to help them get back on the road. That’s not something anyone asked her to do, but she did it anyway.

Another motorist laughed as they remembered being pulled over while their care came to a standstill in the yellow lane near an off-ramp in Brackenfell. They said Officer Lerato escorted them safely to the nearest place they could stop.

Others shared that they recognised her from previous encounters and weren’t surprised to see her name attached to another act of kindness. Many added that positive stories like these restore a sense of faith and hope in South Africa’s law enforcement.

“Glad you’re safe and encouraging to know we have great cops still out there,” added Mariette Brasher.

One story is lovely, and two starts to feel like a coincidence. But when complete strangers keep sharing similar experiences about the same person, it’s probably just who they are. Thank you, Officer Lerato, for showing that kindness can be as much a part of the job as anything else.
