In a heartwarming video going viral in England, Simon McDermott drives around the city of Blackburn with his father in the passenger seat. Together, they sing their hearts out to “Quando, Quando, Quando.”
But there’s something that makes the moment particularly special.
Simon’s 80-year-old father, Ted, has Alzheimer’s. Singing this song is what seems to “bring him back,” if only for a few brief minutes.
A former Butlin’s Redcoat has become an internet sensation after his son posted his Carpool Karaoke antics online.
Pensioner Tim McDermott, 79, also known as the The Songaminute Man , has shot to fame since footage emerged of him belting out Quando, Quando, Quando as he drives around Blackburn with his son Simon in May.
Since Simon posted the footage on YouTube earlier this month it has been viewed by thousands of people across the world.
The doted son had a kind-hearted motive for posting the footage – as he hoped to raise awareness of Alzhiemers disease, which his father was diagnosed with in 2013 after decades of entertaining in pubs and clubs.
His video has helped raise more than £57,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society just two days after his son set up a Just Giving fundraising page.
Simon now hopes to post more videos of his dad and even has plans to have him perform alongside a band.
