It’s the happy ending we’ve all hoped for! After two weeks under Cluny Animal Trust’s care, Snapper, the seven-month-old pup, is back home with Adam, where she belongs.
Free State, South Africa (19 January 2026) – Two weeks ago, Adam arrived at Cluny Animal Trust’s clinic carrying his sickly seven-month-old dog, Snapper. He had no transport, so he walked more than 10 kilometres from Mashaeng township to get her help.
He carried Snapper in a plastic crate in his arms, along with a tin of dog food, just in case she needed it. From the moment they arrived, it was clear how deeply Adam loved his doggie. But the odds were stacked against her. She was battling parvo, biliary disease and worms.

Cluny’s team went the extra mile, treating her around the clock and not for a second giving up on hope.
Then, six days later, Snapper greeted her carers with a bark. She stood up, walked outside to soak up the sunshine and gobbled up a full meal. It was the first real signs that she was beating the odds.
Things only got better from there. Last week, Cluny fetched Adam for a visit. By the weekend, she was ready to head back home!

“After seeing Adam earlier in the week, Snapper has gone from strength to strength, it was as if she understood that she had to do well to go home to him. Although she is still a little wobbly and she does need to pick up some weight, all of this is to be expected considering how ill she was, but it was time to discharge her, and she is going home with Adam today.” shared Cluny Animal Trust.
Snapper isn’t heading home empty-pawed, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the public.

“We are incredibly thankful to everyone who donated, with the money we have been able to cover all of the costs for Snapper’s care, her full vaccination regime, her sterilisation (which we will do in a couple of weeks when she is stronger) plus tick and flea treatments and food for the next 6 months. There were also some fantastic brand-new items donated, so Snapper got her own hamper filled with blankets, toys, and lots of other doggie goodies and she also got a new dog bed.”
And just as importantly, Adam and his family are supported too.
“And as promised, Adam got a much-needed grocery hamper, and we also got him vouchers that he can use at the local supermarket and butchery here in Fouriesburg, so that he can get food and essentials that he may need over the coming months.”

“As you can see in the pictures, he could not believe it when he realised that all of the items were for him and Snapper, just to make their lives a little easier and he was so happy and asked that we thank everyone on his behalf.”
Before heading home, Cluny made sure Adam felt confident about caring for Snapper long-term. Animal welfare is also about education.
“Jan spent quite a lot of time with Adam this morning, taking him through everything that Snapper needs, not just in the short term but for her long-term health too. Education is so important and something that we strive to do with every pet owner that we meet because when people know better, they do better and in this case Adam and Snapper know that the entire Cluny team is there to help and support them..”
Thanks to a loving owner, who with very little, still went the extra mile, and the team at Cluny, a story that started with a desperate 10km walk ended with a joyful journey home.
