When love walks. Adam made the long journey from Mashaeng township all the way to Cluny Animal Trust on foot. All for his beloved dog Snapper, whom he carried safely in a crate in his arms.
Free State, South Africa (08 January 2026) – Over the years, we’ve seen pets arrive at vets and rescue clinics in all sorts of makeshift ways. They come in carriers refashioned from old toolboxes, plastic packets, wheelbarrows, and even on bicycles. People with very little still find a way to get help for the animals they love.
Adam is one of those people.
When his seven-month-old dog, Snapper, became dangerously ill, Adam didn’t have transport or options to spare. One thing he did have in abundance is love for his dog, and so a plan was made.
Using a crate and rope, he put together a makeshift carrier, made sure that Snapper fit comfortably inside, and set off on foot, walking over 10 kilometres from the far side of Mashaeng township to reach help.

When he eventually arrived at Cluny Animal Trust, staff quickly caught on to just how sick Snapper was (and still is). The young cross-German Shepherd has biliary complications along with other serious health issues and was admitted immediately. The next few days will be critical.
“We have seen some amazing owners over the years, but Adam just blew us away with his love and dedication for Snapper,” shares Cluny.
When he arrived at the clinic, not only was he lovingly carrying a heavy weight on his shoulder, he was also carrying a tin of dog food. Just in case Snapper needed it.

We hold hope for Adam and his beloved Snapper that things work out.
“That is a man that really does love his dog,” shares Cluny.
This kind of love is a golden thread that runs through so many of the stories we’ve shared.
From Sello spending his last money and walking over15 kilometers to save his dog Option, to Siphosethu who walks 10 kilometers through Mpophomeni every single week, just to reach Funda Nenja’s training school.
One of the most endearing qualities about loving pet owners is their willingness to do whatever they possibly can to get their companion to safety. Adam has shown what kind of dog dad he is. He’s the kind who picks up a crate, ties a rope, and walks as far as it takes.
Snapper is now receiving treatment, surrounded by people doing all they can to help her pull through. For updates, visit this page.
