Taryn Jacobs was a teen who had a childhood marked by uncertainty before an Amy Foundation after-school programme, which helped her fearlessly pursue her aspirations.
Cape Town, South Africa (24 April 2025) – Many of us often need a little hand up, an open door or some form of encouragement to help get a glimpse into our unlocked potential.
For Taryn Jacobs, this looked like joining an Amy Foundation after-school programme, introduced to her by her cousin. Here, Taryn was immediately drawn to the energy, talent, and joy that radiated from the kids involved – an experience that sparked a fire within her and helped her discover her voice.
According to the Amy Foundation, before joining the organisation, Taryn’s childhood was marked by vulnerability and uncertainty. She had moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town for high school and struggled to adapt. However, her motivation and determination prepared her for the new chapter that awaited her.
Through the Amy Foundation’s programmes, Taryn was empowered to step out of her comfort zone and pursue her dreams.
The once shy teenager transitioned into a confident dancer and eventually a netball coach.
As a netball facilitator, Taryn’s typical day involves getting the players excited and warmed up for practice. She’s also passionate about providing a safe space for kids to enjoy themselves and develop their skills.
Taryn’s ultimate goal is to one day have her own dance studio and perform on stage with renowned artists. She dreams of watching her own dance crew share their passion with society.
Taryn’s perspective on life has changed dramatically, having realised that not everyone has the same opportunities and that gratitude and appreciation are essential.
Her advice to others is to never let anyone stop you from pursuing your dreams and goals, no matter how difficult your situation may seem.
