Bracing for the coldest stretch of winter, the Rustenburg SPCA saw donations pour in from all over, affording them hundreds of blankets, new toys, food and most importantly—community support.

Rustenburg, South Africa (16 July, 2023) — From blanket surprises to toys, treats and adoptions, the Rustenburg SPCA is celebrating all the unofficial angels who walked through its doors recently.

Winter is an obviously tough time for shelters all over the world. Above and beyond rescuing animals and finding them new forever homes, a seasonal task becomes imminent—keeping the pack as warm as possible.

But the Rustenburg SPCA is far from alone in this task as their larger community of animal lovers prove. In recent days as the weather steeped to new icy levels, families, individuals, acrobats and kids have all come out to share what they can, and every dose of support has made a big difference already.

There’s Kristen Wallace who took home two kittens and came back with warm blankets. AJ Smit who brought two bags packed with towels (because no pooch deserves a cold bath) and Mariana Beets who organised toy treasures from her customers.

Belinda and Brogan Bronkorst dropped off 30 blankets, and sponsor 5 kennels a month. Acrobatics Elite stopped by with 100 blankets, while Cecilia Kotze and her friends brought by 3 stacks of cosy covers and massive bags of food.

On top of this were anonymous food donations, the tin food pile up and hot water bottle gifts to heat up the animals’ beds.

And, these are only a few of the many people who’ve stood in front of the Rustenburg SPCA’s angel wall recently.

Thanks to all these efforts both cosy and kind, Rustenburg SPCA can go into winter’s most brutal stretch with hundreds of blankets.

This community might not know each other, may come from different backgrounds and might have different capacities for giving. But they all share one important thing: They are our kind of heroes!
