78 years young and ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, Zonia Ackerman is set to walk a Portugal Spain camino spanning 240km—all to raise funds for the animals of Helderberg!
Helderberg, South Africa (03 September 2024) — At 78 years young, Zonia Ackerman will embark on an adventure many dream about and far less tackle, later this September. As she touches down in Europe, Zonia will unpack her sturdiest walking shoes for a soul-filled expedition—a Portugal-Spain camino—all for the animals of Helderberg.
A longstanding volunteer who has dedicated roughly 20 years to Animal Welfare Helderberg, Zonia is no stranger to going above and beyond for the lives that most look past. As such, her Portugal-Spain camino is an extension of her care for them and support for the humans who put them first, even if it takes hundreds of kilometres.
Zonia will be tackling the Portugal-Spain camino not for the mere enjoyment of a stroll the length of a roadtrip, but to raise funds for the non-profit so that they can sterilise more animals and ultimately decrease animal poverty in their area; all while raising awareness for the shelter animals.
With 240 kilometres and 14 days ahead of her, Zonia’s upcoming camino has greatly inspired people in her community and beyond to walk the walk; one’s phase in life be damned.
