Touched by a young teen navigating life with cerebral palsy, Beth Colepeper is taking on a 24km run to raise funds to get him orthotics and offer him the chance to thrive not just in school, but in life.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (15 July 2025) – One of the most touching feelings in the world is to be inspired to be a part of something greater than ourselves by those who make the most of their lives despite facing tough odds.

A feeling Beth Colepeper knows all too well. On Saturday13 September, she will be strapping her laces to run 24km on Nottingham Road as part of her “23 With Me” run for the Amathuba Foundation.

The Amathuba Foundation walks alongside promising young students who have received sponsorship to attend top high schools in KZN.

These students face immense challenges as they navigate the gap between home and school environments. Amathuba provides each learner with a committed Mentor who offers guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their high school journey, helping them thrive both academically and personally.

This year, specifically, Beth is running the distance and raising the funds for Makalondwe, a Grade 8 Amathuba Mentee at the Creative Minds Academy.

“Makalondwe lives with cerebral palsy, and after 14 years of navigating life without them, he’s finally reached the point of saying yes to orthotics – a life-changing step to avoid surgery and support his mobility and quality of life,” shares Beth.

The cost of having orthotics fitted is around R14,500, and Beth’s goal is to raise over R15,000 to help cover this cost.

“Every contribution will help lighten Makalondwe’s daily load and support him on his journey through his schooling at the Creative Minds Academy.

You can support her cause and empower a young boy by donating to Beth’s Sport For Lives crowdfunding campaign, sharing her campaign, or joining her to run, walk or support on the day.
