A chance conversation sparked Bongekile Ngxwashu’s interest in the Amy Foundation’s Hospitality Programme, where his passion for people and accounting quickly shone through, opening amazing doors to a brighter future!
Cape Town, South Africa (07 January 2025) – It’s no secret that the youth employment rate in our country is not nearly where it should be in this advanced day and age. Too many hopeful youngsters are at home with impressive qualifications or possess great potential, just waiting for a life-changing call, an opened door or the anticipated moment an offer for employment email pops into their inbox.
For Bongekile Ngxwashu, his big break came when he decided to join the Amy Foundation. A decision that was sparked by a simple conversation overheard in his neighbourhood—a moment that would lead him to unlock his full potential.
The determined young man joined the Hospitality Programme in February 2023 at the age of 25, setting him on a path of personal growth and professional success.
“At the foundation, Bongekile stood out for his passion for hospitality, combining his natural people skills with a strong interest in accounting and management.
“This powerful combination allowed him to secure a coveted yearlong internship and study program at Mount Nelson A Belmond Hotel where he continues to excel as a switchboard operator and front office assistant,” The Amy Foundation shares.
Bongekile has discovered his knack for interacting with guests from diverse cultures, sharpening his communication skills, and expanding his worldview in his new role.
With dreams of cruising the globe and climbing the hotel management ladder, Bongekile’s infectious enthusiasm and dedication are a testament to the power of seizing opportunities and believing in yourself
Beyond his career, Bongekile serves as a role model in his community, inspiring others by sharing his journey and the opportunities he embraced. His advice:
“Be yourself, be respectful, and respect the process; there will be big wins.”
