Having grown up at SOS Children’s Village in Cape Town, a young woman cherished the opportunity to celebrate her 21st birthday at the place that had become her home and to connect with the children who were now living there.
Cape Town, South Africa (26 September 2024) – Going back to the one place where she was showered with the love and care she couldn’t get from her own family growing up, was a young woman who chose to celebrate her 21st birthday at the SOS Children’s Village in Cape Town.
She is just one of the many young children who entered the village’s doors and found safety and a caring family that moulded her into the woman she is today.
Even though she has grown up and left the village, visiting was the perfect way to celebrate reaching a new stage in life with the love and support of the people who had played an important role in shaping her life and were still doing so for many more young people.
“Her visit was to celebrate her 21st birthday, and to share with the current children her story and encourage them to seize opportunities presented to them, and to work hard at school, and further studies to achieve success in life,” the organisation shared.
With a presence in eight provinces, SOS Children‘s Villages in South Africa offer orphaned and abandoned children a place they can call home where their needs for food, healthcare, shelter, and education are met.
SOS Children’s Villages offers children who have been alone a place where they can be children again: to play, laugh, learn, make friends, and do all the things a child should do.
