Greta Wilson plans to spend 3 to 4 hours swimming laps at the Silvermine Dam this Friday to raise R20,000 for Funda Nenja, a cause close to her heart.
Cape Town, South Africa (10 May 2023) – Greta Wilson (52) is taking on a challenging swim this coming Friday in the hopes of raising funds for Funda Nenja. The Silvermine Dam, in Cape Town, will be chilly this Friday with low temps starting at 12 degrees and the high not to far off at 16. She is doing the swim because she loves the cause but sadly her friend Cythia (73) recently passed and so she is dedicating her efforts, to Cynthia too.
She has her friends and aunt who will be at the dam to monitor her and make sure she does her minimum 23 laps, which are about 300m each.
Greta hopes to raise R20,000 for Funda Nenja and has already managed to collect just river R2,100.00. The funds will be paid by BackaBuddy directly to Funda Nenja.
Who is Funda Nenja?
Funda Nenja, a dog training initiative, runs in the township of Mpophomeni, near Howick, in the KZN Midlands of South Africa. They focus on animal welfare in the area by providing dog training lessons to the children and much-needed vaccinations for their beloved dogs.
These lessons teach the dogs some obedience skills but also help the children bond with their pets to form a deeper connection. The classes help educate children about animal welfare and encourage them to show their families how to treat animals too.
The classes are hosted each week, and as part of the programme, the dogs involved get checked up by the primary veterinary clinic. Any animals not inoculated yet, get it done right there.
The children are also afforded other support, such as proper leads and collars, as well as a decent weekly meal pack for their animals.
Greta’s big swim is leading up to her birthday on the 2nd of June this year. She is an avid animal lover and hopes that her efforts will make a difference to the dogs and children of Mpophomeni.
“I’m a dog parent and dog lover. I visited Funda Nenja in 2016 and believe in their incredible educational work so more dogs and dog guardians can upskill for an increased understanding of what their human wants from them as much as the human understanding of their dog’s needs.”
