Cleaning for Cancer Patients

A group of women started cleaning the homes of exhausted cancer patients for free. Just so they could focus on their health instead or worrying about chores.

Cleaning for a Reason was founded to help women battling cancer, no matter what kind, clean their homes. Their motto is “We focus on your home, so you can focus on your health”.

Cleaning For A Reason is a nonprofit organization that serves all the United States and Canada.

We have recruited over 1,200 maid services to donate free housecleaning to women who are undergoing treatment for cancer. Since 2006, our partner maid services have volunteered their time to clean for over 24,000 women – valued at over $6,400,000.

The founder, Debbie Sardone, had the idea a few years ago. She was the owner of a cleaning service and had a client that was diagnosed with Cancer who couldn’t afford the service any longer.

She decided no woman undergoing cancer treatment would ever be turned away by her business. In fact, they would even be offered a free housecleaning service!

In 2005, Debbie shared her story with other maid services at a national cleaning industry convention. She shared that it was these women, undergoing the physical, emotional, and financial rigors of cancer treatment, who needed professional housecleaning services the most.

Immediately after sharing her story, a rush of cleaning business owners expressed their interest and support.

Cancer patients are able to head to the website and sign up for the services. Cleaning services all over the USA and Canada have a service specifically for cancer patients so most women can get access no matter where they live.

This is a fantastic concept and would be amazing if started here in South Africa!
