Blankies

There are few things more heartwarming than when a call for community kindness is met. This was the case for the one SMALL Act of Kindness team in more ways than one recently with blankies and cupcakes leading the kindness charge!

Johannesburg, South Africa (11 June 2024) — It was a week of good news for the One SMALL Act of Kindness team whose calls to the community for cupcakes and blankies were met with the same kind of heart that drives these initiatives in the first place.

On their busy to do list last week, the OSAOK team were urgently seeking blankets for homeless people, with plans for a big handout. They wanted to rally enough blankets to ensure that no one asking for one would be told there were not enough. Additionally, they were also rallying cupcake champions to spread a little sweetness in support of 10 Soweto netball teams competing in a tournament—a big deal for the budding netball players that needed to be celebrated.

In very happy news, both of these community-calls were met with open arms and hearts! In just two days, the OSAOK team welcomed hundreds of blankets and blanket-related donations—allowing them to hand out over 246 blankets with 300 ready to warm lives this week.

As for the cupcakes, the team received over 250 cupcakes “made with love, heart and soul”, making the tournament weekend that much more special for the netball girls who played their hearts out.

A blanket or cupcake alone might not seem like all that much. But when you look at it from this collective perspective, they become less like items and more like little drops of love, sprinkling and warming their way from one person’s heart to that of another; a way of saying “I’m supporting you” without needing to say it at all.

This is very much the ethos of the One SMALL Act of Kindness community who remind us every week that the little things do add up—sometimes far more than we might ever know.
