Evan Hughes found peace and calm during a stressful travel experience thanks to a kind stranger seated next to him on a flight from Chicago.

Chicago, United States of America (10 December 2021) – When travel plans go haywire, it can be a stressful and exhausting experience. Having to do it with a toddler in tow while separated from your partner, unimaginable!

That is what happened to Evan Hughes in early December. He and his partner were due to travel from Chicago but found themselves separated by bad weather, flight delays, and a few other travel headaches. Evan was running on fumes but had to pull it together for his 8-month-old son.

It was only the second time his son had ever flown on a plane, and Evan was trying to get him settled in for a nap. Baby Hughes was not having it and wanted to visit the lady seated next to Evan. He kept trying to crawl his way over to her.

The woman had noticed and eventually offered to take the restless child so that he could see out her window.

“I was having an awful travel experience on Sunday after my SO and I got separated in Chicago due to weather. This was only little man’s 2nd flight ever (8mo old) and he was doing so well until he wanted to go see my neighbor in the window seat. After brief introductions and him fighting me trying to crawl over to her, she opens her arms and says “oh just give him to me!” He (and I, exhausted) willingly oblige to the stranger’s request.”

Evan noticed that his son had taken advantage of the woman’s kindness and fallen asleep right on her chest. The moment caught Evan of guard, and he gave into the kindness being offered by the stranger beside him. It was a moment he will never forget and one he celebrated on social media.

“Not 60 seconds later he puts his head down on her chest and falls asleep! “Power of the boobies” she jokes. She then proceeds to tell me that if I wanted to take a quick nap that she would be more than happy to hold him while he slept.

After multiple cancellations and layovers I selfishly agreed to give her watch over my precious child so that I could catch a quick cat nap. The kindness of this stranger was truly refreshing on what was quickly becoming one of the worst days in a long time. There is still hope!”

These simple acts of kindness make a world of difference. This kind woman gave a stressed father a moment to recoup before facing whatever was next—a moment of peace.
