Starting as a cleaner at an early childhood development centre in 2019, Puleng’s daily interactions with young learners ignited a passion within her to contribute more meaningfully to their lives.

Alexandra, South Africa (27 April 2025) – There are few things a determined mind and resilient spirit cannot achieve. Puleng Mokgosing’s journey from being a cleaner to a teacher is a testament to that.

Her journey with Afrika Tikkun, an award-winning child and youth development organisation, began in 2019 as a cleaner at the Phutaditjaba Centre.

Determined to do more and make an impact on the youngsters she encountered every day, Puleng decided it was time to develop herself and her skillset.

Through grit and grace, she immersed herself in early childhood development knowledge and recently completed her NQF Level 4 training with Train to Teach.

Today, she stands proudly as an assistant teacher in the Bambanani Early Childhood Development Programme in Alexandra — inspiring and nurturing young minds aged 3–4.

Not only did she find a new purpose, but Puleng is proof of her commitment to learning and excellence in education.

“I now enjoy working with young children, as it was always my passion,” Puleng says.

“It is a responsibility to help shape their future alongside parents.”

Puleng’s journey proves that when passion meets opportunity, incredible things happen – and in this case, many young minds become enriched, too!
