After days of his family searching and multiple communities banding together to find Dice the hiking doggo, his mountain trek is finally over and he’s back in his warm bed.

Cape Town, South Africa (26 April, 2023) — Over a week ago, a black and white Pit Bull pup became the talk of communities in Cape Town. Dice the hiking doggo had gone missing, sending his family into stress spirals no pet parents ever want to experience.

The 5-month-old Dice had been on a trail adventure with his owner when he bolted off away from the hiking trail; Rhodes Memorial leading up to the King’s Blockhouse (Devil’s Peak).

Despite endless searching, potential sightings, multiple posters and even some offering drones to aid the investigation in hope (and fear) that he might still be along the mountain’s intimidating slopes, Dice was yet to be spotted. Although his family was determined to see their Dice come home, the days were tirelessly ticking by.

However, kindness and luck played their hand yesterday when two kind strangers heard distressed yelping while exploring the same trail.

Saxon, Dice’s owner told Good Things Guy that the pair had investigated further in the direction of the cries where they found the pup in the bush next to the trail!

They then carried him down the mountain to Rhodes Memorial and got in contact with Saxon.

Dice has some cuts, is a lot skinnier and was found dehydrated, but the resilient dog survived and his family couldn’t be more grateful. He’s since been taken to the vet and is back home with his dad.

Saxon shared:

I”‘m so glad to have Dice back home safe. It still feels unreal after all stress and pain of the last week, but I can only imagine how Dice was feeling through it all.”

“This has really been a humbling experience and I’m so grateful for all the help and support that everyone has offered. And so so grateful to have a happy ending to this! Also, I will never cease to be amazed by the strength and resilience of dogs!”

On the night of the reunion, Lesley, Saxon’s mom shared:

“My relief is immense and I am one happy mother this evening.”
