Rescuetech Search and Rescue came to the aid of the Kloof and Highway SPCA to get an Egyptian Goose trapped on a cell tower, back down to safety.
Kloof, South Africa (23 November 2021) – The Kloof and Highway SPCA based in KwaZulu-Natal recieved a call about an Egyptian Goose in distress. The bird had found itself trapped at the top of a cellphone tower. An emergency search and rescue team came to the aid of the poor goose.
The rescue took place over the weekend, on the 19th of November 2021.
“Yesterday afternoon the Kloof and Highway SPCA received a call from Debi who reported an Egyptian Goose was stuck in a cellphone tower and needed urgent help. When Feild Officer Eric Simamane arrived he could hear the distressed bird stuck all the way at the top of the tower and knew it would not be able to free itself. Field Officer Eric called the various numbers on the cellphone tower and was unable to reach anyone for assistance. Faced with a mammoth rescue we were unsure of how to get to the Egyptian Goose.”
Rescuetech Search and Rescue heard about the goose and called the SPCA to offer assistance. Their team is skilled in pulling off some daring rescues so they were up to the task!
“Rescuetech arrived and after some phonecalls made by their team leader Daniel, someone came to unlock the tower so the rescue could begin. The team of 3 Rescue Officers climbed up inside the tower and once ontop had to hoist the smallest member of their team over the top to rescue the Goose.”
“After 4 hours, in the dark and rain the Egyptian Goose who was exhausted and had minor injuries from its struggle, was brought down to safety and taken to the Kloof and Highway SPCA Clinic for treatment overnight and sent to CROW this morning where it will continue its treatment and eventual release.
Thank you Debi for calling the the Kloof and Highway SPCA and thank you to the the incredible team of Rescuetech Search and Rescue for your help”
