When the emergency lines go off, Marubini Malake wastes no time in responding to those in need. The dedicated dispatcher at Working on Fire, is celebrated for her invaluable contributions to the successful winter fire season and her role in combating wildfires.
Mpumalanga, South Africa (27 November 2024) – In the heated moment of emergency and panic, the person behind the emergency line becomes a critical lifeline. Their ability to swiftly and accurately dispatch teams to the scene of danger can mean the difference between life and death in many cases.
A well-functioning dispatch department, easily overlooked, is the unsung hero of every rescue mission. Without their clear direction, responders would be lost and countless lives jeopardised.
Recognised and honoured for her invaluable role in what has been a successful winter fire season for Working on Fire, is Marubini Malake whose contribution to the dispatch department in Mpumalanga cannot go unnoticed.
According to the integrated fire and disaster management organisation, Marubini who first started as a firefighter in 2012, has risen through the ranks to become a highly skilled Dispatcher.
In her role as a Type 1 Dispatcher, Marubini impressively coordinates aerial and ground resources in various provinces to combat wildfires.
“Her commitment and adaptability have made her an invaluable asset to our operations.” Malake’s story highlights the significance of women’s empowerment in the firefighting industry. She has broken barriers and continues to inspire others, demonstrating what can be achieved through perseverance and passion,” the organisation said.
We too, congratulate this inspiring and stereotype-shattering woman who is not only integral to effective wildfire management but is an inspiration to many looking to succeed in largely unprecedented roles.
