Thought you were the biggest Boks fan in town? Well, unless your name is Germarié De Villiers, you’ve got stiff competition. This South African super-fan travelled all the way from her home in Italy just to celebrate the Springboks’ homecoming. Give that fan a Bells!

Global (02 November 2023) — Move over Mama Joy, there’s a bigger South African Springboks fan around!

After meeting Germarié De Villiers at O.R Tambo International Airport along with a sea of supporters welcoming the World Cup winners home, 702’s Mandy Wiener soon discovered that Germarié might just be the super-fan to end all super-fans (and not just because of her iconic SA flag-inspired skirt and outfit).

Speaking to 702, Germarié revealed that she had flown all the way from Italy (nearly 12,000 km) just to meet the Springboks and welcome them home, with plans to travel back to Italy the following evening.

For context, Germarié is a South African married to an Italian and lives in Italy with her husband and children. However, with green and gold pride pumping through her veins, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be part of the celebrations in person, even though it meant using up her savings.

“I picked a flight, when I heard they’re going to be flying in…and I made sure that I was air-side to get a couple of hugs and photos…our boys deserve it,” she said.

Give that fan a Bells and a trophy of her own!
