Prelena Soma Owen was having a tough day, she struck up a conversation with a security guard about life passions then she did a good deed that changed his life.

Prelena Soma Owen posted a really inspiring story to Facebook about a good deed that grew into something beautiful. It all started a few months ago when she was having a tough day. She had received some bad news and just needed a moment to unwind.

A place Prelena loves to unwind is Zoo Lake in Johannesburg. She enjoys taking her camera and capturing the beauty of the space around her. Prelena is a photographer with a talent for capturing the essence of the animals she photographs.

A few months ago I was feeling deflated after some bad news and decided to go unwind with my camera at Zoo Lake. I was approached by a security guard there who amazed me with his photographic knowledge. I was so inspired by his passion that I decided to give him my very first camera kit (Sony) and offered him free photographic tuition and mentorship.

The good deed to Mokobo Michael Phasha was exactly what he needed. Mokobo thrived behind the camera, a raw talent finally being nurtured and grown. All the work the pair put in to the lessons paid off and Mokobo shared some really happy news with Prelena.

My efforts did not go unrewarded. Through his sheer passion and dedication he has been awarded a bursary to attend a two month photo workshop. I got this lovely message this morning:

“Good morning Mrs Soma Owen
I just want to share with you that I have been offered a bursary at the market photo workshop in Newton which will start on the 13th of September , is a foundation course for the duration of two months. I think I must share the news with you since you are you will always be my inspiration and I believe there still a lot I am going to learn from you in the future.
Thanks again.”

Well done Mokobo Michael Phasha!!! So proud of you!!!

It is such an inspiring story, proving that sometimes when we take a chance on someone we could actually change their entire life. We strongly believe in good deed stories like this and love sharing them with you all. Let us know your good news good deed stories in the comments.
