Refusing to let their circumstances define them any further, a group of women from underserved communities have committed themselves to learning the life-changing skill of sewing to start their own small businesses and generate an income from home.
Gauteng, South Africa (23 April 2026) – More often than not, the only way to escape difficult circumstances is to rise up and equip yourself to step into a better reality. Over the past 12 weeks, a group of determined women from underserved communities have committed themselves to learning a life-changing skill: sewing.
Through this programme –An Angel Network Gauteng initiative- they have been trained to make over eight different types of garments, along with practical items such as aprons, bags, and tablecloths.
“These women are now equipped with the skills, confidence, and determination to start their own small businesses and generate an income from home. For many, this is a vital step toward financial independence and providing for their families,” the Angel Network said.
They are ready to move on to the next chapter of their journey, applying their new skills to create beautiful garments that will, in turn, provide a means to a livelihood. However, one critical barrier stands in their way: access to a sewing machine at home.
“A sewing machine is more than just a tool; it is an opportunity. It enables these women to turn their skills into sustainable livelihoods, to support their children, and to build a better future.”

The charity longs only to see these women flourish and is currently seeking support to provide a sewing machine to each programme graduate.
“With your help, we can turn training into transformation. Your contribution can put a sewing machine in the hands of a woman ready to change her life.”
