good samaritan

A good Samaritan spotted Jean-Marie in a spot of car trouble while driving on the N1. Jean-Marie was very pregnant and sitting in a car on a hot day!

Jean-Marie Lindeque was traveling on the N1 from Cape Town to Durbanville when she started experiencing car trouble. As she pulled off the highway a silver bakkie pulled up behind her to offer assistance.

“The car is old and no aircon… not great when 35 weeks pregnant in the heat… so going to Durbanville from town already almost killed me.”

“The car made the most horrible noise and I thought it was a flat tyre… already thinking how am I going to change a tyre with my stomach?”

“As I started pulling over this silver bakkie pulled over with me and I thought oh crap… please let this be safe… and out came this man who just helped… friendly, calm and kind of like my dad.. he got underneath the car”

Jean-Marie had been very upset by the car trouble and the stress of thinking she was going to have to wait on the side of the road, in the heat with a baby girl just about ready to join the world. The good Samaritan found the problem, the plastic cover underneath the car had come loose so he quick fixed it by tying it with string so that Jean-Marie could get home safely.

After he fixed the cover Jean-Marie thanked him and they went their separate ways. Once Jean-Marie got home she realised she never got the name of her good Samaritan. So she posted the story online to try and find her helper so she could thank him with a bottle of wine or reward. The post was shared and a week later Paul Louw came forward as the good Samaritan.

“I had just left Canal Walk driving my son’s Bantam bakkie, when this silver VW came past me making one hell of a noise. I looked underneath the vehicle and noticed that the entire plastic cover underneath the engine was about to break off. The lady pulled off and I pulled up behind her. I managed to make a temporary repair with string. The lady actually offered to use “haar broek se tou” but we made a plan. Nothing special, just doing the right thing. May your baby be blessed! En ja daar is well “boerseun” in my bloed.” – Paul Louw

Jean-Marie has been in contact with Paul and said that Paul has been very gracious and didn’t want anything in return for the good deed.

“He didn’t want any reward or wine but I was able to thank him properly… and maybe after my daughter is born I can meet him for a beer..”

“It is amazing how social media can find a needle in a hay stack..”, “My post was about finding a man who I wanted to thank and it worked. I hope Paul gets all the good out of this episode that he can as I was terrified that day.”
