Meet the class of 2022 – The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind is celebrating the graduation of sixteen support and guide dogs today.
South Africa (31 May 2022) – It is graduation season in South Africa, and it’s not only university students earning their caps, but the South African Guide-Dog Association for the Blind also shared that several of their support dogs graduated recently.
This news is heartwarming! Of the graduates, six were Autism support dogs, and ten were guide dogs for the blind. The sixteen newly qualified dogs will go on to make life easier for their humans.
“We recently had our dog graduation and here is a look at the Autism Support Dogs, Guide Dogs and Graduates!
We want to thank our sponsors Boeringher Ingelheim and MSD Animal Health who sponsor all our dogs with vaccinations and the tick and flea control.
It takes 2 years for a dog to graduate (from puppy) and many people and partners to make this come true. It costs in excess of hundreds of thousands of rands to qualify an assistance dog and it is only possible through the donations and support from you!” – SA Guide Dogs
The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind breeds and trains Guide Dogs for visually impaired people, service dogs for people who are physically disabled and autism support dogs for children who are on the low autism spectrum. The Association receives no government funding and relies on donations and fundraising activities to keep the doors open.
The work it does is life-changing. Should you wish to support the organisation, you can find out how here.
