Wouter Willemsen had a cringe moment as he watched his phone slide from the bonnet where he had left it into the centre lane of a busy highway in Durban.
Durban, South Africa (14 December 2021) – Wouter Willemsen had his faith restored in humanity when a taxi driver and a truck driver tried to help him find his missing phone along the N3 highway centre island before the Langford Road Bridge.
Wouter’s sister Katja shared the story with Good Things Guy after the family heard about the act of kindness on their family WhatsApp group. She asked if she could share the story with our readers, and he agreed.
According to the message from Wouter’s wife, he left his phone on the bonnet by accident and watched as it blew off along the N3. Along with the phone, there went his license and credit card, and they were sitting in the case of his phone cover.
Wouter rushed home to get his wife’s phone so that he could track his own phone. Thankfully the phone wasn’t damaged in the fall from the car, and he could track it. He found the phone and made a dangerous stop along the side of the road to get it.
“This requires a lot of planning and crossing 4 lanes of fast-moving traffic (and a lot of patience and courage). But, he does locate his undamaged cellphone (of course it has a soft landing… summer in Durban means the most efficient grass cutters can’t keep up let alone our municipality!!)”
“But, while he’s on the centre island, he has two visitors, a taxi driver whose taxi has broken down and wanting to help with the search and a truck driver asking for directions. Both also crossed the 4 lanes of fast-moving traffic as if it was an every day occurrence (maybe it was).
It’s not the only reason why we love living here, but it does help”
The family was moved, as was Wouter, by the efforts of the two men trying to help him find his phone.
Have you ever had someone help you find a lost phone? Or left your phone somewhere really odd?
