Non-profit organisation Home of Hope’s youngest resident, Keenan, has taken a big step with little feet: starting Grade R! For the people who care for him, this isn’t just another school chapter. Instead, it’s hope for children just like him who have already graduated in facing adversity:
Table View, South Africa (01 September 2024) — Most might not remember our first day of Grade R in high definition, but for many, it was the start of our first conscious understanding of the world.
The chapter preceding ‘big school’, the place where many of us would make life-long friends over a squabble in the sandpit and the space where we met some of our greatest passions for the first time, Grade R is its own big step for little feet.
One young learner, little Keenan, recently started Grade R to the delight of his Home of Hope family.
As the youngest of the 26 children in their residential care, Keenan’s new adventure was not just an exciting chapter for the child but for all who have been a part of his journey thus far.
Home of Hope is a Table View-based non-profit that looks after abused and abandoned children, especially those who have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) that cause brain damage due to prenatal exposure to alcohol. Their mission is to give these children as much care and nurturing as possible, with an emphasis on guiding them in the direction of their passions from a young age.
People support Home of Hope by helping their children flourish from afar, sponsoring the culmination of important elements (nutritious meals, residential care, education, social development and more) that make a child grow.
While Keenan learns all about colouring, making friends, basic writing and everything else that will prepare him for Grade 1, the Home of Hope team invites the community to be a part of his journey to becoming an awesome human who knows love and education.
