Jaden kept a childhood promise that moved a nation – now, he needs our help to keep his dream alive.

South Africa (11 February 2025) – Some stories stay with us long after they’re told. Jaden’s is one of them. In 2023, we shared the incredible story of Jaden and his childhood friend Jumi – a story that melted hearts across the country.

Jaden, the Head Boy of his school at the time, kept a promise he made in Grade 6 to take Jumi, who has Down Syndrome, to their matric farewell. It was a moment of pure kindness, reminding us that friendships built on love and respect are the ones that truly matter. But Jaden didn’t just invite Jumi to the farewell – he made it unforgettable. Balloons, flowers, a pink milkshake (her favourite), and a heartfelt proposal sealed with an “ek sal.” It was about honouring a friend, proving that no difference should ever stand in the way of celebrating someone’s worth.

When we featured Jaden’s story on Good Things Guy, the response was overwhelming. People across South Africa were moved to tears by his kindness. His actions weren’t for show – they were simply a reflection of the person he is: compassionate, selfless, and driven by a heart that sees the best in others.

Now, Jaden and his mother, Michelle, need our help.

Jaden has always dreamed of playing professional rugby. He played for the Pumas in Grade 11 and Matric and was even offered an opportunity to play in New Zealand. But he chose to stay loyal to the Pumas, securing a partial bursary and committing to a future in the sport he loves.

The challenge? Finances.

Michelle has needed to bear the full burden of R19,000 per month to help Jaden attend the academy full-time. The monthly amount covers his academy fees, rent, groceries, transport, and medical costs—everything he needs to keep going during training.

True to his nature, Jaden has offered to step back, not wanting to add to his mother’s stress. But no dream should be lost because of financial hardship.

Michelle has started a BackaBuddy campaign to help make Jaden’s dream a reality. Every little bit counts – and every contribution is a reminder that family is about the people who show up when it matters most.

Jaden is not just an incredible athlete – he’s an incredible human being. His kindness touched so many when he honoured his promise to Jumi. Now, we have the chance to honour him in return. Let’s show up for Jaden. Let’s help him chase his dream. Because kindness, in all its forms, has the power to change lives.
