Jason Bashford, a grade 12 Kearsney learner, attempted to save a woman’s life with the help of a retired paramedic who took turns with him to perform CPR.
Jason Bashford is a grade 12 pupil at Kearsney College. He was on his way home with his father after a University interview when they spotted the woman on the ground surrounded by people with cellphones. Jason immediately asked his dad to stop and rushed over to give the woman CPR.
“I saw a woman lying on the road and a whole lot of people around her taking photos with their cellphones. They said she had just been knocked down by a car but no one bothered to help her. My first instinct was to start CPR,” – Jason Bashford
About halfway through a woman came over to offer assistance. She was a retired paramedic, the pair took turns to continue CPR until the ambulance arrived.
Once the paramedics arrived, they took over but sadly the woman didn’t make it.
“When the paramedics arrived, they injected an adrenalin type of drug to help resuscitate her but the woman was unresponsive so they continued the CPR for another 15 minutes before declaring her dead,” – Jason Bashford
People started to hear about Jason’s actions and his heroic attempt at saving the woman when nobody else would. Jason’s community have hailed him as a true hero for his dedication in trying to save the woman’s life. Thank you for your commitment Jason, may you inspire more to take real action.
