The heartwarming story about a neighbour named Bonnie, a talented crocheter who recently gifted a crocheted angel to a Checkers Sixty60 delivery driver as a token of appreciation has us in our feels! Now, inspired by the driver’s gratitude, Bonnie decided to spread more joy by sharing her creations with children at local nursery schools.

Johannesburg, South Africa (14 November 2024) – One of our Good Things Gals, Tayla Castle, had our hearts melting after sharing a beautiful encounter she had with her neighbour, Bonnie who creates marvellous crocheted pieces.

From stylish butterfly tops to windchimes and now to more festive things, Bonnie finds joy in threading together beautiful pieces. Recently, she shared one of her creations—a carefully crocheted angel—with a CheckersSixty60 driver who stopped by her home to deliver her order.

When Tayla asked what moved her to do this, Bonnie shared:

“How come? I don’t know, my inner spirit just felt that I couldn’t tip him cause I don’t have enough money and I just thought, you know, it costs me probably ‘R15.00’ to make them, so I just felt moved to give it to him and say look here is an angel watching over your family.”

Needless to say, the driver was touched by the heartfelt gesture. His gratitude has further moved Bonnie, who is in her 60s, to spread even more of this goodness through simply sharing her crafts, made with lots of love, with children at nursery schools supported by her local church.

“She thought of maybe giving one to each child to have a sort of dolly, but she says it is more like the verse that she uses when she does not feel safe: ‘Angels around me protect me, angels around me protect me’, Tayla shares.

Beyond this special moment, we’re reminded of the beauty and warmth that comes from stepping out of the confinements of our own four walls to get to know those not too far from us.

For Tayla, getting to see the thoughtful and compassionate side of her neighbour filled her heart with hope and pride.

“I genuinely wish she continues to spread joy and lift spirits throughout this festive season, hopefully inspiring others to do the same, as the need for love is there.

“You never know when that teaspoon of sugar will be needed that one morning. Here’s to more acts of kindness that make our communities feel just a little brighter,” an inspired Tayla says.
