Con Malherbe and his friends got caught in a storm and were welcomed into the home of a family in rural KZN; they decided to pay back this kindness in the best way!
Nottingham Road, South Africa (14 December 2021) – Con Malherbe and his friends were enjoying a day out cycling through rural KwaZulu-Natal in early October when a massive storm caught them off guard. A family invited them onto their homestead, offering kindness, food, drink, and shelter from the storm.
Wearing only their cycling gear, they were completely exposed to the raging thunderstorm, heavy rains, and strong winds. The family made a really tough situation far more bearable, and they asked for nothing in return.
Con and his friends were blown away by the gesture of kindness by the family and hoped to pay their kindness back. When they got back home, they started talking about what could possibly be done. They decided to give the family a Christmas they would never forget!
The guys roped in their cycling community and, before long, had collected clothing, non-perishable foods, and even seedlings for a food garden. They still have funds leftover, so the next step is to get a fridge, an essential and top of the family’s wishlist.
Rory Scheffer from Mountain Room Media joined in to film the exciting day that the family got their kindness paid back. It is heartwarming to see their reactions and pure excitement.
We are sure they never imagined that offering shelter to a few cyclists would lead to such a wonderful December.
Take a look at the incredible act of kindness below.
So good to have good stories!
