Award-winning Singer Lira joined the Krush Goodness Krew at her old stomping ground, Ekukhanyeni Primary School in Wattville, Benoni to hand out school shoes to the children.
Lira grew up in the East Rand of Johannesburg, attending the Ekukhanyeni Primary School in Wattville, Benoni. When she was invited to join the Goodness Krew, she knew she had to help her old primary school.
As part of the Krush Goodness campaign to give away 10,000 pairs of school shoes in 5 provinces across South Africa, 4000 pairs of those shoes were donated to schools in Gauteng alone. Clover Krush partnered with Smart Steps by Novita Shoes to help give the children proudly South African shoes.
We got in contact with Lira to find out what it meant to her to join the Goodness Krew and visit the school that shaped her as a young girl.
“I think that was the best feeling for me. To take a trip down memory lane and find that very little has changed in this school and to understand that such a gesture really goes a very long way. The school has since reached out to me for more assistance and I feel that they would not be able to reach out for assistance if we did not show up first. It just feels great to be able to make a difference.”
Lira felt that being part of a project that changed the lives of so many children was wonderful, that bringing joy to so many lives felt really good. With her platform being so massive, Lira wanted to encourage all the young dreamers, to keep on dreaming because it does pay off. She shared some truly inspirational words of encouragement for the youth in South Africa about following their dreams.
“Your dreams are valid and they matter. The reason you have dreams in the first place is because they are your own unique gifts that life offers you to make your mark. They require lots of belief in them, in yourself, loads of bravery and the willingness to go for it. You can’t change where you come from but you can use it as the fuel that pushes you forward to becoming anything you want to be.”
