Expats and concerned citizens living in London staged their own successful #ZumaMustFall protest on Saturday in defence of South Africa’s democracy and calling for the removal of President Zuma.
Thousands of protesters demanding the resignation of President Jacob Zuma took to the streets in pickets, marches and human chains across South Africa on Friday 7 April 2017.
Many were protesting for the first time ever in civil action sparked by Zuma’s Cabinet reshuffle, which saw the finance minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas fired. The rand fell against the US dollar and S&P and Fitch downgraded the country’s credit ratings to “junk status”.
South African expats and concerned citizens joined a peaceful protest on Saturday outside the South African High Commission in London in defence of South Africa’s democracy and calling for the removal of President Zuma!
“President Zuma has threatened our economy by firing Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas on the strength of a bizarre and seemingly last minute “security report”. This is nothing more than an attempt at total state capture and cannot be accepted.”
“We must work together, regardless of the party we vote for, to remove Zuma before he destroys our democracy and our shared future.”
“We are calling on South Africans from all walks of life – political parties, NGOs, civil society – and any South African who cares about the future of our country to join us in our movement for change.”
The protest was a massive success with quite a large turnout. The concerned citizens spent the day protesting and singing songs while speeches were made with regards to Zuma stepping down.
