Dreams have come true for a Soweto woman, who was employed as a factory worker, after spending R20 on a lottery ticket and winning R20 million.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, bought the ticket with the six winning numbers at Shoprite in Glen Ridge, Soweto, said Zuki Nomnganga, spokesperson for lotto operator Ithuba.

She kept her ticket in her Bible and thought it was a mistake when she saw she had matched all six numbers.

“This will transform my life‚” she said while struggling to hold back tears.

“She’s thrilled that she will finally get to fulfil her dream of retiring early and acquiring a home by the sea,” Nomnganga said in a statement on Tuesday.

“She also said her other dream of buying her daughter a house will finally also be fulfilled. She’s excited that her retirement money will now be like an added bonus as she enters a new life as South Africa’s newest multi-millionaire.”

The woman’s ticket marked the Lotto’s 31st R1m-plus jackpot winner since June last year, when Ithuba took over the running of the lottery.

Meanwhile‚ Ithuba said it had another Saturday winner – a ticket bought at Cape Town’s Bonteheuwel Post Office in the Western Cape‚ which won the R1.5-million Lotto Plus jackpot‚ at the same draw.

The national lottery website states that they have created over 654 millionaires in South Africa since its inception.
