Winning a lottery was hardly what one animal lover expected after losing her beloved pooch. In the face of loss and luck, Lindi Bergh decided to honour her dogs by sharing her luck with the people who change animals’ lives every day.

Western Cape, South Africa (07 September 2023) — Sometimes loss opens the door to opportunities to give. Such was the case for Lindi Bergh, a lucky animal lover who recently found herself in the face of fortune and loss at the same time.

Lindi had just lost her beloved dog Casper when two hours later, she received a call from ‘Lady Luck’. She had won the Tails Up Lottery pot—a Cape of Good Hope initiative that helps keep its mobile clinics on the move and animal rescuing efforts stay afloat while giving back to its supporters through a lucky draw for a monthly subscription of R50.

While Lindi’s heart was freshly broken from the death of her Casper, she was now R10,000 richer—a crossroads that allowed her to use the loss in her heart to fill the hearts of others.

She decided that keeping all the money wouldn’t honour her dog—a rescue—aptly enough. So, she opted to share her luck instead.

Lindi shared half her winnings with the Cape of Good Hope SPCA to whom she shares an important connection both as an animal lover, rescue-adoption champion and former dedicated volunteer. Needless to say, her shared luck was warmly welcomed for reasons other than financial support.

“This gift was not just a financial contribution; it was a poignant tribute to the furry friend who had left an indelible mark on her heart,” shares the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.

A few days later, Lindi lost another dog—Roxy. Her donation then became recognition of both her pets whose ‘crossing over the rainbow bridge’ will help build a new bridge for the lives of other animals and inspire the next lucky animal lover.

“Lindi Bergh’s story is a shining example of how our love for animals transcends boundaries and propels us to make a difference, even in the face of heartache,” the Cape of Good Hope added.

Meanwhile, in wholesome adoption news, an ex-anti-poaching pooch with terminal cancer found her way into the loving arms of other heroes who come from her field of expertise!
