Zodidi is a mother to many, dedicating her days to nurturing both young minds at her edu-centre and feeding the surrounding community, which would otherwise go hungry.
Delft, South Africa (26 June 2025) – In the heart of Delft, where all kinds of social ills are rife, Mama Zodidi stands as a beacon of hope for the young and old.
As principal of Khula Educare, she teaches and feeds children every day, while just outside, drugs, unemployment and poverty weigh heavily on the community.
With support from Ladles of Love, Zodidi is making a difference. Every week, through the charity’s Nourish the Children campaign, she is able to nourish young minds and uplift families.
This consistent provision of healthy food is not only life-changing for the children but also impacts the preschool owners and principals. But for Zodidi, the need is growing with long queues outside her gate daily.
“There are drugs here. Our children are using drugs. After that, they come hungry because no one can take care of them,” she said.
A disheartened Zodidi shared that most people who live in the area are unemployed, which causes significant struggles for the community as a whole. A lot of the children miss school and are left to wander the streets as a pastime before lining up at her gate, where they hope to get their next meal.
“Everybody is hungry and needs food.”
Her dream is to open a soup kitchen to reach even more people in need, especially little ones who are the undeserving victims of unfortunate circumstances.
In playing her part to educate and nurture young minds, feed the hungry, and be a leader among many lost souls, Zodidi stands as a living testament that even in the face of profound adversity, hope, compassion, and tireless dedication can illuminate a path towards a brighter future for a struggling community.
