Melkbosstrand ‘Melkies’ came together to donate teddies to a local Family Court. Thanks to them, young visitors to the court will have a friend to sit with them through the tough and traumatic ordeal that going to court can be.
Melkbosstrand, South Africa (06 April 2025) — Family courts often see the most heartbreaking situations and circumstances. If a visit to court is jarring for adults; just imagine how it is for a young child, especially when their family situation is under fire. In times like these, little comforts can go a very long way. Having a soft friend to hold or simply sit next to can be a great source of security and strength, which is exactly why what some Melkies did recently was so heartwarming.
Recently, Melkbosstrand High School shared a video of their learners organising loads of teddies of all shapes and sizes. Think bunnies, unicorns, penguins and good old-fashioned bears galore, all ready and waiting to be chosen as a side-kick for youngsters when the time comes to visit the court.
The kaleidoscope of teddies was gifted to the Wynberg Magistrate’s Family Court as donated by Melkbosstrand ‘Melkies’ through the Rotary Interactors of Melkbosstrand.
All this in a bid to show young visitors to the Court that they are not alone, that a community stands behind them, and that they’ve got a fluffy friend to squeeze if they get scared.
“A teddy bear is more than just a toy, it’s a hug you can hold forever”, the high school quoted, adding a big thanks to every Melkie who made a donation possible.
